Welcome to the official Basketball SA Website
The executive committee would like to welcome you to our new website www.basketballsa.org. In the start of our financial and operational year for April 2009 to March 2010, Basketball South Africa wants to create an atmosphere that promotes good communication with our stakeholders, and relationship management with all our leagues and provincial associations. We will grow basketball by creating and promoting good corporate governance structures in our provincial associations, district organisations, club organisations and association member organisations. We want to use our website as a tool to communicate with stakeholders whether at club, district or provincial level. Our main vision is to concentrate on our youth programmes; we anticipate that by 2012 we should reap the fruits of these programmes in both women and men competitions. We also expect that by 2012, basketball will get a minimum of 6 hours per week on television production and that we have gained respect and value from the South African Business stakeholders in respect to sponsorship. We also look forward to our National League growing to levels that are competitive to the other sporting codes in South Africa. Finally, we want to create a South African basketball federation that is fully functional with respective policies and procedures in all departments and with an up to date database of the Basketball stakeholders.
The website is currently under construction but we have published the following working documents for comments through provincial associations in the next General Assembly during the month of May:
•Basketball SA Constitution
•Basketball SA Rules and Regulations
•Basketball SA Strategic Plan, which we will use to create our Operational Plan
•Basketball SA Calendar for 2009
•Basketball SA National Programmes (Seniors, Under 16, Under 19, Referees and Talent Identification)
•Talent Identification
The Basketball SA Board wants all documents to be tabled and improved at the next General Assembly. All documents were approved and apply based on the Special General Meeting held on 8th March 2009. Provincial Association and their respective leagues should start adjusting their rules and regulation in line with working documents. Provincial Associations and Associate members should also submit plans to Basketball SA to be included in the Overall Basketball calendar.
We congratulate our National Senior Women Team for qualification in the zonal qualifiers to participate in the African Championships. This is a limestone as this is the first time that the national Senior Women Team qualifying for the tournament in the history of South African basketball.
We also which our national Senior Men Team good luck in the up and coming zonal qualification in Mozambique starting on the 28th march until the 4th April. We will make sure to bring you all the stats and results of the games in Mozambique.
If all resources are obtained, we also look forward to the following events in the current year:
